In today’s world, language is a really important thing. Because of language, we are able to find words to express our feelings. Happiness, grief, love, shock – we are familiar with them all. Just that sometimes, we decide to call the tiniest surge of happiness, to be actual happiness. Or once we experience just a knee scrape, we feel that nothing can hurt more. In that process, a knee scrape becomes our definition of pain. Which we refuse to change, until it comes along. And then too, we are not ready to accept the truth.
We are constantly setting limits. Setting boundaries. There is a point beyond which our minds will not wander. We refuse to wander not because we wish to be happy with what we have and not dream, but because we are scared. We fear the sudden rush of feelings we might uncover. We fear that knowing such things exist will put us off balance. And will put life off balance.
It is a pretty simple logic that we have adapted to. We will not believe in what we haven’t seen or experienced. We would rather not know and be limited than know and feel the pain of knowing. That is where we steer wrongly. The pain of knowing is inevitable. However, knowing makes you see the world in a brighter, fuller hue. A hue that was invisible to you before.
When you learn to ride a bicycle, you feel a rush of pride and happiness. That very moment is treasured. You believe that there is nothing that will make you feel happier. Nothing, even climbing a mountain could top your feeling. However, it is not until you actually climb that mountain do you realise that that feeling of exhilaration and happiness does top that of the bicycle. When you stand on the top of the mountain and gaze at the world below, you realise something.
You realise that anything is possible. That boundaries are just imaginary. And that imagination can wander way past them. There is more out there. More out there that will change the way you look at things. That will add more purpose.
