• On earth, and maybe even beyond, there are innumerable forms of life. Birds, animals, perhaps aliens, bacteria. Yet there is something that keeps us apart; something about us that is special, unique; something that makes us all Human.

When I say the word ‘Human’ my mind does not see men and women, children, or in that case, stick-men. I feel a mix, a variety of different things. However, that list of mine varies now and then. So far, I feel love, care, bravery, courage, sacrifice, determination, resilience, willpower, strength, knowledge, trust and loyalty.

We humans, however small, showcase all of the above. There may be a few of you who are not aware of what I write, so I feel the need to explain.

We care for our fellows. Our family. Our friends. If they are unwell, we make sure they get back to the pinkest of health. We spend sleepless nights if our family is ill, or in another kind of danger. We care for our pets, treat them like our best friends. We care for everyone, for we know that we must treat people like how we would like to be treated.

During war, we are ready and courageous to do what must be done for the good of our countries. In life, we are brave enough to do what is right, although not easy. We are brave enough to believe in the truth, despite the pain we may go through while saying it out loud. When it comes to our family and friends we don’t give a second thought before sacrificing what we have to make their lives better.

Humans are determined to achieve their goals and ambitions in life. Yes, we know that we may not live for a hundred years, but we feel the need to at least do something before time ceases to exist. Our will makes us do whatever it takes to chase our dreams. That is one thing I love about us. We never give up. We will go to any cost, do anything. We will sail through the stormiest of seas or glide through the windiest of skies or swim through the deepest of oceans to get what we want. (Stubborn in a good way:) We will never give in.

During our years, there are times when we fall down. When we feel like everything is pointless. When we’ve lost all hope of ever getting up again. In those times, we are still able to see a tiny yet bright beacon of hope which encourages us to get up and live again. To go ahead, and face whatever comes. As whatever has to come will come when it has to, and when it does, we must be ready for it.

I’ve heard that trust is like a paper. When it is crumpled, it cannot be straightened again. We’ve learnt this. We make it a point to trust people and not carry the weight of the world only by ourselves.

There is one last and major thing left. We love. Love is not those sappy old romantic films. Love is not holding hands and kissing in coffee shops. Love is life. Without love there is no life. Love is what binds us together and what lingers in our hearts even after one leaves. Love is the feeling of never being separated_ of always having someone with you. Love is that you are never alone. Love is a fire that burns brightly and always will.

And just like that, we are human. Phones, computers, technology, do not define us. It is not an iPhone, it is an iHeart. And together, the fire of humanity, or mankind will keep on burning. It shall be the greatest fire. A fire that can’t be stamped out. A fire that will burn forever. A fire that will endure harsh weather and rain. A fire that will warm us and guide us through life. A fire that will stay in our hearts. A fire that will make us human. A fire which will be there for eternity.

  • I am pretty sure that 90% of you are aware of the fact that this world is going to end if we don’t take care of it.

This is not me trying to threaten you. This is not me trying to brainwash you. This is a fact. And you cannot deny this. Global warming, pollution, artificial intelligence, nuclear wars, I could go on and on writing about how these events can end our world. However, there are tens of websites that are going to tell you about this. My aim is to convey one message.

It can happen. This world can end.
And if it does, I don’t want to die regretting.
I want time to cease with my heart fulfilled.
I would want to know that we did our best.
We failed. But at least we all tried.
And I know that all you would prefer this.

I don’t know if I am a good fortune teller, but there are some things that I know. And I know that if each and every one of us make an effort, take baby steps, we can make this world a better place, that can live longer.

Firstly, about plastic. How many plastic bags do you throw away every year? Plastic is not biodegradable i.e. it cannot decompose into the earth, even after a thousand years. Many people throw plastic bags into the seas and oceans without any second thoughts. Plastic is made from substances called polymers.
Have you ever thought about the fish who chew the plastic bags and eat them, thinking they are food such as jellyfish, and are choked? Or are infected by a harmful disease? Or are drowned by plastics?
100,000 marine creatures are killed every year by the entanglement of plastic, and these are the ones found.
1,000,000 seabirds ( approximately ) die every year from plastic too.
What if you were a fish, and you find some material that
looks like jellyfish, and eating it, only to experience utter pain as you struggle between the worlds of life and death?

Then, there is recycling. How many of you throw away things that can be reused? Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We all certainly know what these three words mean. How many of us actually go by them?
There is some waste that cannot be reused again, and then they are burnt, sending poisonous fumes into the air, causing the ozone layer to weaken.
Do you throw away plastic water bottles, food waste, paper, and things that can be recycled? Instead of increasing the waste, you can reuse things. Use food waste as fertilisers for your gardens. Use glass and mirror shards as decor in your room. Use the dried up leaves for your fire. I am giving you just a few in hundreds of ideas. There is much more you can do. Just put your heart into it. That is all I’m asking you to do for this world.
Recycling is one of the best ways to reduce waste and thus pollution too.
It is a way to make the dead things seem alive.

A very important thing that we should do. Plant trees. We all know that paper is made by cutting trees. Huge trees.
Let’s say that there is this 50 year old tree which is chopped down to make paper. This tree has taken in 50 years of carbon dioxide and given out 50 years of oxygen. When we cut it down all the absorbed gas is released leading to a rise in the carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
In return, to cover up, we plant 5 more trees. Which we all know will take 10 more years to absorb all the carbon dioxide again. True.
However, what if we all planted 1 tree on our birthday? There are around 17.7 million birthdays every day. Which means at least 6 billion trees every year!
Just a small sapling and 5 minutes of a year. What is the harm? It is for a good cause after all.
If you are reading this right now, I want you to send this to any 5 of your friends. Tell them that this is worth it.

Now I know that not many of us see the world changing if we change. I do, however.
Another very important thing is to control ourselves, our emotions.
I heard of this story about a man who refused to give someone else money. The other person tackled him and almost choked him to death. This is what we are becoming. A few of us. But personalties are like virus. They inspire people, even in bad ways, causing changes. If we don’t stop, our future is not going to last long. Like Mahatma Gandhi said,
“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”

Think of yourself like a corked bottle. Do not let your feelings be pent up inside, or you will explode one day, and go up in flames.( metaphor:)
Focus on making friends and not enemies. You need people to stand by your side, and not against you. Against is just going to start fights and useless quarrels which we insist on looking in to.
Look at the bigger picture. We do things for a better tomorrow. For the next gneration.

And the last of all. I want you to believe. To believe that you are going to be able to do this.
To pledge that you will do whatever you can to save this earth.
To believe that if this world is on the verge of ending, you are going to muster all your strength defending it.
Because this earth is our birthplace.
And as long as we are alive, it shall be kept alive too.

It can happen. Maybe tomorrow, an asteroid can boom into earth. Whatever happens is unpredictable. But don’t be so worried that you will die with regret filling your heart. Because you will die with pride of our planet.

  • This is just how I feel. Whenever people want to motivate you, they speak to you. They tell you that you can do anything. That you should hold your head high and listen to your instincts. Which I respect and appreciate. They tell you stories about people who started out small and are now successful. In hopes that one day, you’ll be inspired by them and will start your own journey.

Here’s where they are wrong. (For me). Whenever someone or something inspires me, I start to move towards that. But then, I realize that it won’t do me any good. It would just make me feel guiltier. Because that’s when you come to know that everyone, even celebrities, are not perfect.
After hearing people talk about motivation, you are motivated, and confident. But at one point of time, don’t you realize that you can’t imitate someone? You have to be original to earn something today.
All restaurants have specialties. That is why we visit one, but not another. Just like that, if you’re a jack of all trades, but a master of none, what is the point of it all?

If you’re inspired by Camila Cabello, you learn to sing, but you cannot reach her level of vocals, so you start something else.
You’re motivated to learn magic tricks from Harry Houdini, but you can never be as precise as him.
You try to learn science deeper, but you still can’t see the heart of it, you give up being Isaac Newton.
You can’t fight like Mary Kom, or run like Usain Bolt, or write like J.K. Rowling.
You are in the middle of nowhere.

However, if you did what makes you happy, like dance or paint or anything that you love doing, you can become a star.
We are all stars in the night sky. Stars are not only those who shine brightest in the sky, but also those who shine faintly, emitting hope, refusing to be quietened down. Those who touch your heart and give you confidence. Those who kindle a fire even in the rain.
