We have all grown up learning how to cross a road without a zebra-crossing or signal. To start walking if there are no vehicles approaching you, to stop if there is one. To be alert and aware of what was going on. To be careful. These small lessons become part of our lifestyle and instinct.

Yet to this day, we all have different ways of crossing roads. Some of us will wait for the road to be clear of all cars and buses, and start walking once the road is emptied. Some of us will play it safe, and will only cross once we are sure no vehicles are present. It takes minutes for the road to clear up, but we are fine with it- as long as it means a safe crossing. We will clasp hands and cross our roads.

Some of us will grab the opportunity to cross as soon as we find a gap on the road. Cars are approaching – but as long as we don’t crash into them, we are fine. We make it fast- even run at times. We take the risk and hone our reflexes to be agile and take chances.

And in this way, some of us get left behind- scared to cross, but safe. Others will cross wildly, though vulnerable to danger. It’s really a choice we make, that comes to shape our lives.

Thank you! It’s just one act of crossing a road, but has two extremes
